Services
Dr. Claudia Lee received her Honours Bachelor of Science as well as her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo.
She graduated on the Dean's Honour's List, and received the FYidoctors Clinical Leadership Award, the Dr. Stanley Pearle Scholarship, and the Walman Optical Scholarship, all of which are awarded in recognition of leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to community service.
As part of her clinical education, Dr. Lee received extensive training at the Eye Foundation of Utah in the treatment and management of eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and dry eye disease.
At each visit, Dr. Lee will not only assess your vision and check your prescription, but she will also evaluate the health of your eyes.
This goes from examining the surface, checking the pressure, and looking at the internal structures of your eyes.
Dr. Lee will use a microscope to look for signs of eye diseases, and signs of overall health issues.
Even if you're seeing 20/20, it is still important to have an eye exam.
There are many other potential problems that can occur aside from blurry vision, and you may not even notice any changes.
A child's first eye exam should be between 6-12 months.
Dr. Lee will check for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, amblyopia ("lazy eye"), eye alignment, proper eye movement, how the eyes react to light, and signs of potential eye problems.
Vision problems can cause developmental delays, so if your child's eyes aren't on the right track, we need to find out and take care of it right away.
Your child's second exam should occur around age 3. Toddlers are constantly developing, and 80% of learning is done through vision.
Based on the results, Dr. Lee will be able to get the whole picture as to how the eyes are functioning and make recommendations based on these results.
These may include prescription lenses, prismatic glasses, and/or vision therapy.
A report will be completed with the results of this assessment, which you can share with teachers and other support professionals to optimize the working environment at home and school.
Visual perception is our ability to process and organize visual information from the environment.
A person may be able to easily read the individual letters on the chart, but have difficulty organize and making sense of visual information.
Making sense of what you see is vital for school skills such as reading, writing and math, as well as life skills such as reading signs and maps, finding objects in a busy space, and taking part in hobbies or crafts.
We use our visual perception in everyday life when we catch a ball, distinguish a moth from a butterfly, read a road sign, recognize a face, or find an object in a messy drawer.
