LI Optometric Vision Development
All of our doctors specialize in optometric vision therapy and developmental vision care for both adults and children with a wide range of vision disorders. It is important to know that it is still possible to have vision difficulty, even if an individual sees 20/20 on the eyechart. The 20/20 test measures clarity of sight at a distance. Yet the vision system is a dynamic and complex system involving much more than simply seeing 20/20!

Many children and adults can still have poor eye movements (difficulty scanning along lines of print when reading), poor convergence or binocular skills (difficulty coordinating the two eyes) and/or have poor visual-perceptual processing skills (difficulty understanding visually presented information). Children with these difficulties will often struggle needlessly in school, and may be labeled as lazy, unmotivated, AD(H)D or learning disabled.

Problems such as these do not go away with age. The good news is that whether you're a child or an adult, have been suffering from vision problems like these for a long or short time (due to an acquired head injury), vision therapy is a proven treatment method.

They all have extensive experience in helping patients recover from strokes, accidents, closed head injuries, concussions, and post neuro-surgery as well as vision problems that interfere with reading and learning.
Our doctors also share a passion for the diagnosis and treatment of vision disorders that interfere with reading, learning, 3D viewing, and other activities of daily living.
Our center is dedicated to helping children and adults treat a variety of vision problems that cannot be corrected with regular eyeglasses and contact lenses.
This includes treating lazy eye (amblyopia), eye turns (strabismus), and a variety of eye coordination and eye movement disorders as well as vision problems that interfere with reading and learning.

Vision Therapy for AutismMany children struggle with multiple challenges, that can make school and life achievements seem almost impossible to conquer.
Working with professionals however, that are both familiar and comfortable addressing the requirements of a special needs child can be invaluable in helping families help their children to achieve at their potential.
Identifying and resolving vision problems in children with special needs, oftentimes will result in achievements that families sometimes would never have thought they could attain.
Detecting and correcting vision problems when your child is young ensures they do not encounter unnecessary difficulties and labels throughout their schooling.
Unfortunately, basic eye exams usually only test for 20/20 eyesight (or visual acuity) and do not test any other areas of vision function, which are essential for learning in the early grades.
Undetected vision problems can cause significant difficulty for a child in an academic setting.
As a child progresses through the higher grades, children with functional vision disorders often fall further and further behind their peers, continually requiring academic intervention and support services in order to achieve.
Convergence Insuffiency Study by the National Eye Institute Your eyes are designed to work together as a team to produce a single image.
To do this, they both must aim and focus on the same point.
This process is known as eye teaming.
When you look at an object up close, your eyes must turn in (converge) in order to maintain proper eye teaming.
Convergence Insufficiency (CI) is the inability of the eyes to converge comfortably and sustain convergence while focusing on an object close to you such as a book or computer.
