This optometric office was the first eye care establishment in Los Altos in the 1950s. Today, Dr. Lodenquai continues in the excellent service and care provided through this practice. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts in 2004. Before she came to Los Altos she worked as the primary optometrist in an ophthalmology practice in Redwood City and was involved in cataract and LASIK evaluations.

Prior to that she also worked as a primary eye care optometrist in private practices in Boston, MA. She graduated from UC San Diego with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. She also did basic science research work at the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego and at Genentech in the Bay Area before staring optometry school. Dr. Lodenquai truly believes in the value of a good eye exam and the difference it can make in someone's life!

She loves educating patients on vision care because when she sees patients, she sees a whole person walking in, not just two eye balls!
Services
Proper eye care is important for people of all ages and regular eye exams are encouraged for everyone, but especially for those already using glasses or contact lenses.
Your vision plays a vital role in your life each and every day, which is why it is so important to take the right steps for maintaining good eye health.
At Altos Family Optometry, we provide a variety of services, from general exams to corrective surgery.
We also carry a wide selection of eye frames for our patients as well.
Orthokeratology reshapes the cornea without surgery.
New patients keep our business growing, so we are always proud to offer high quality optometry services to our patients.
We understand that your first visit to the eye doctor can feel overwhelming and we try to accommodate all new patients with a comfortable and organized facility.
Our goal is to cover everything you need with a full and efficient assessment, but without waiting to see the doctor.
Soft contact lenses are made of flexible plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to your cornea.
Many people find soft contacts easier to get used to than the rigid type.
Some newer soft lens types can provide even more oxygen to the eye.
The big advantage of soft contact lenses is they are often more comfortable initially and take less time getting used to.
Oxygen can also pass through RGP lenses, thus helping you to be comfortable and your eye healthy.
In general, RGP lenses transmit more oxygen than traditional soft lenses (with the exception of the newer soft lenses).
These are lenses with one working distance only.
For kids and adults 40 and under it can be used for all ranges.
But for those who need a specific working distance it can be used just for reading, computer, or anything that works with the prescription required.
The lenses of bifocals have two different optical powers that work with two distance ranges.
It can be for distance and near, intermediate and near, or any ranges you would like to specify.
Bifocals can be for people with "presbyopia" - the inability to focus on near objects.
Dr. Lodenquai provides a complete eye exam for children.
The exam includes a detailed physical and ocular history and a thorough evaluation of the visual system including the refractive state of the eyes (this determines whether you need glasses or not).
The teaming of the two eyes (how well the eye balls work together to offer clearer vision).
Your general eye health including glaucoma check, macular degeneration check, cataract check and others, depending on your situation and family history.
