A cataract is a clouding effect in the lens inside the eye that causes vision loss that is not correctable with traditional methods like glasses or contact lenses.
Cataracts must be corrected by surgery.
Don't let this scare you.
Sunlight is good for you!
However, prolonged exposure to UV light, coupled with wind and dust can be dangerous for your eyes, often resulting in conditions called pinguecula and pterygium--commonly called, "Surfer's Eye."
Since these sunny, dry, dusty weather conditions are very common in places like Arizona, Tucson Eye Physicians specializes in pterygium treatment.
There are two versions or stages to what is generally referred to as "Surfer's Eye."
The first stage, pinguecula, typically presents as a raised, yellowish growth on the white part of the eye.
Tucson Eye Physicians specializes in providing medical and routine eye care.
Our services include eye exams and cataract surgeries, as well as diabetic, glaucoma, and Botox treatments.
As a rule, Tucson Eye Physicians recommends having routine eye exams at least every two years, even if you don't have a diagnosed optical condition.
For those over 60 or those with any sort of vision issue-including basic nearsightedness or farsightedness-we recommend getting your eyes checked annually at a minimum.
