In 1977, Dr. Stephen Chinn opened his first San Diego Optometry Office in North County, in Vista. Starting off small with his wife as his receptionist, he eventually grew that independent practice and moved to San Marcos. As time went on, he realized there was a need for eye care in underdeveloped parts of San Diego County where people of other races were unable to get eye care because of language barriers.
That is when he decided to open a second location in El Cajon, in 1982. He spent 20 years between San Marcos and El Cajon servicing two completely different communities to fulfill the need of eye care. Eventually he brought on an associate doctor and sold his San Marcos office to her in order to solely focus his efforts and time on the communities he felt he could serve better.
In 2008, he made the decision to move to a new community, North Park, in the hopes of serving a new community. We have now been in the North Park community for 10 years and have been grateful for the many amazing people we've met.
That is when he decided to open a second location in El Cajon, in 1982. Long story short: my family and I have driven from Los Angeles down to San Diego for the past 20+ years to have our eyes checked by Dr. Chinn.
As long as I can remember and to this day, Dr. Chinn and his wife Caroline are simply Uncle Steve and Auntie Caroline. Over these years they've cared for my grandparents, uncle, parents, brother, and myself. Dr. Chinn and team have guided two family members through LASIK surgeries, from recommendation to post surgery care. Their ability to act as health advisers paired with their level of personal care is why we consider them family.
It's been a great experience growing with Dr. Chinn's Vision care. Year over year they continue to absorb client feedback and implement changes to better service those in and out of the office. Professional seminars and conferences litter Vision Care's calendar as the team strives to improve and stay up to date with ever-changing medical findings/technology.
To top it all off, the team has recently moved to a new location (very close to their original office). The new location has been built to service every kind of client need. From normal checkups to casual check-ins (bless Flower's heart, Flower is front of house, for adjusting all my mother's pairs of sunglasses), this new site is clean, professional, and inviting.
Always looking forward to the drive down to SD to catch up with my favorite eye-doctors and bringing my own kids down, when they're born of course!
