Colorado Springs Eye Clinic provides primary eye care for all conditions of the eye and surrounding structures, both routine and urgent. We offer routine ophthalmic evaluations which screen and treat a wide range of ophthalmic conditions including cataracts, ocular surface disorders, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Diagnostic services include evaluation of visual acuity, refraction, slit lamp evaluation, ophthalmoscopy, tonometry, gonioscopy and corneal topography.

Typical treatments include prescription medications and/or optical correction (glasses prescription), however, occasional surgical intervention for cataracts and laser treatments are offered as part of a comprehensive visit. Cataracts are the leading cause of treatable blindness worldwide, and is the most commonly performed surgery in the United States.

While generally associated with older patients, cataracts can affect any age group. Contact CSEC to schedule a consultation for the best options for your situation.

Ironically, some people suffer from dry eye with little to no discomfort initially.
While it may seem like a good thing not to experience regular symptoms, without them patients and physicians may not detect the problem before it progresses and becomes harder to treat.
For this reason, annual comprehensive eye exams are an easy, hassle-free way to protect your vision.
For some, dry eye is simply due to insufficient tears.
Tears keep the eye moist, wash out dust and debris, and are essential to good eye health.
Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness in the United States, affecting more than 3 million people of which the majority are age 40 and above.
Known as the "silent thief" of sight, it can quietly steal your vision by gradually damaging the optic nerve.
The optic nerve is responsible for carrying the images we see to the brain.
The optic nerve can be damaged when the pressure within the eye increases, usually due to a build-up of aqueous fluid within the eye.
Blind spots develop within the field of vision.
Age-related macular degeneration (sometimes called "AMD" or "ARMD"), a serious threat to vision, can result in permanent blindness if not detected and treated promptly.
This disease affects the macula, a critical component of the eye's retina that handles central vision.
The macula changes light into nerve signals that then travel through the optic nerve to the brain.
Macular degeneration blurs images and fine print, and can distort vision.
The most common form, "dry" macular degeneration accounts for 90% of ARMD cases but is responsible for only 10% of blindness caused by this disease.
Diabetes is a disorder in which the body does not produce enough or respond normally to insulin, causing blood sugar (glucose) levels to be abnormally high.
A diabetic eye exam is designed to check for eye problems caused by diabetes, such as diabetic retinopathy.
If you have diabetes, it is recommended that you have a diabetic eye exam at least once a year in order to detect problems before they affect your sight.
The information obtained from your eye exam will also help the physician managing your diabetes.
Keratoconus means "cone-shaped cornea."
An uncommon condition, keratoconus thins the cornea and changes its normally round contour to a cone-like bulge.
A healthy cornea properly focuses light rays entering the eye to give you clear vision.
Keratoconus usually affects both eyes, although the symptoms experienced with one eye may be different than those experience with the other eye.
Keratoconus sometimes produces scar tissue that causes the cornea to lose its smooth texture and affects ability to see clearly.
