John Mark Cavanagh, O.D., is a native of Minnesota who grew up in New Hope, Minnesota.
After attending St. John's University for natural sciences, Dr. Cavanagh excelled in his doctorate program at the University of Houston's College of Optometry, graduating Summa Cum Laude while also being the Secretary of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.
He was also a proud member of the Phi Theta Upsilon National Professional Fraternity and many other prestigious organizations throughout his educational years.

After receiving his Doctor of Optometry from Indiana University in 1975 he was commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and assigned to the Eye Clinic at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico.
He graduated Summa Cum Laude with degrees in physics and mathematics from St. John's University in 1971.
