There are a variety of age-related as well as medical conditions that may explain what you have been experiencing.
Dr. Gupta takes into account your personal health history to best evaluate, diagnose, and manage your eye health.
A comprehensive eye exam is more than a glasses prescription.
It involves a thorough and detailed look at the various parts of the eye in order to diagnose, treat, and even prevent eye-related health problems.
There are also various medical conditions including diabetes, neurologic disease, autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Sjogrens syndrome) that can directly affect the health of the eye.
Aging is the most common cause of cataracts because of natural changes that occur in the lens as we get older.
Cataracts may also develop in certain medical problems like diabetes or in the case of eye injuries or prior eye surgery.
You don't necessarily need surgery as soon as a cataract is directed.
Cataracts can interfere with your vision, but they don't damage your eyes.
Cataract surgery is performed when a patient's cataract develops to the point where it interferes with his/her activities of daily living.
It is commonly associated with high eye pressure but can also occur with normal eye pressure.
As a fellowship-trained specialist, Dr. Gupta is experienced in the latest medical, laser, and surgical techniques to help manage glaucoma.
She utilizes the latest technology in diagnosis, visual field testing, optic nerve imaging, and treatment options.
There is research that is constantly being done to help us understand how the disease works and how best to treat it.
While most people associate glaucoma with high eye pressure, you can still develop glaucoma even if your eye pressure is in the normal range.
Tears contain a complex mixture of water, oil, and mucus that nourish your eyes and protect them from infection.
Inadequate tear production can lead to both short-term discomfort and long-term eye problems.
There are conditions such as diabetes, contact lens use, and rheumatoid arthritis that may cause dry eye.
Additionally, the increasing use of digital devices and screens can also contribute to these symptoms.
Environmental factors and age can also play a role.
Through a comprehensive evaluation we will make sure to address your symptoms and concerns and ensure that your eyes feel as comfortable as they can be.
Floaters are related the gel in the back of the eye and are usually not of concern and often age related most of the of time.
Through a comprehensive exam which involves dilation, we will make sure that the floaters are normal and not indicative of another disease or eye condition.
For the most part, floaters are normal and are related to the gel that fills the back part of the eye.
As we age the composition of the gel changes resulting in big floaters that patients often describe as "cobwebs", "thread", or even "pieces of hair".
