Our Story Our optometrist and opticians have roots in Portland, but with plenty of influence from around the globe. Optometrist and Staff Samuel Adelman OD is the primary optometrist at Portland Eye Care. He attended Pacific University and enjoys being an optometrist and working with our great opticians, Nancy and Tom, as well as our eyeglass frame buyer and part-time optician, Akiko.
Location and Hours Our office is located at 4133 SE Division St, Portland OR, 97202. The optometrist is available to for appointments Monday through Friday as well as Saturday mornings. No appointment is necessary for frame styling and glasses purchase, however our opticians usually take lunch between 1:30 and 2:00 in the afternoon, so please call ahead if you need help during this time.
Eye doctor services generally require appointments though we will see walk-in appointments if possible. Please call if you have an urgent eye problem and we will do our best to see you same-day or refer you to another office.

In the summer of 2000, and before anyone called me "doctor, " I left my native Portland, Oregon and went to Japan as an English exchange teacher.
There, I worked in a rural Japanese junior high school in an area that turned out to be the center of the Japanese optical industry.
The people I met there (including the one I eventually married) mostly worked in the small eyewear design houses and factories nestled among the rice fields in that part of the country.
A few short years later (okay, fourteen years, mostly spent in optometry school and interning in Portland eye clinics) I opened Portland Eye Care as a way to bridge these worlds.

We are proud to be an independent Portland business with deep roots to this community.
We walk and ride our bikes to work (and often deliver your contact lenses by bicycle).
We support Portland schools by volunteering at Richmond Elementary school and visiting various Portland schools to educate students on eye health as well as careers in health care.
We import most of the eyeglasses and other products we offer directly from small Japanese design houses.
Except for our office, you won't find most of these designs outside of Japan or the fashion capitals of Europe.

Below are some of the organizations we support through donations of money and products, advertising, or volunteering.
We are always looking for partners to make our community stronger, and like to say that what is spent in our office doesn't just stay in Portland, it tends to only go a few blocks down the street.
