At Griffey Eye Care, your eyes are our focus. I sent my mom to Dr. Griffey for a 2nd opinion on her eyes.

Years later, I am still satisfied with the care he has provided. She had an appointment today and Dr. Griffey called me personally to discuss my concerns.

A Cataract is a clouding of the eye's naturally clear lens.
The lens focuses light rays on the retina - the layer of light-sensing cells lining the back of the eye - to produce a sharp image of what we see.
When the lens becomes cloudy, light rays cannot pass through it easily and vision is blurred.
Cataract development is a normal process of aging, but cataracts also develop from eye injuries, certain disease or medications.
Your genes may also play a role in cataract development.
A Cataract may not need to be treated if your vision is only slightly blurry.
The retina is a very thin, but complex tissue that lines the back of the eye.
It is composed of millions of cells, including photoreceptor cells that sense light and send images to the brain.
There are many conditions that can impair the retina's ability to receive and transmit images.
The most common retinal diseases are Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Retinal Detachments.
These conditions are very serious and if not treated, can lead to loss of vision.
Many retinal diseases can be treated with various forms of laser.
Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve - the part of the eye that carries the images we see to the brain.
The optic nerve is made up of many nerve fibers, like an electric cable containing numerous wires.
When damage to the optic nerve fibers occurs, blind spots develop.
These blind spots usually go undetected until the optic nerve is significantly damaged.
If the entire nerve is destroyed, blindness results.
Early detection and treatment by your ophthalmologist are keys to preventing optic nerve damage and blindness from Glaucoma.
If you are less than 40 years old and have no medical or eye conditions, you need an Eye Exam about every two years.
If you are over 40 years old or have any medical or eye conditions, a yearly exam is very important.
Note: it is very important for diabetics, regardless of age, to have a complete dilated exam yearly.
Oftentimes, people get routine Eye Exams because they are experiencing difficulty with their vision.
However, routine eye exams are also essential to maintaining good eye health.
In addition to correcting vision problems, a routine exam can detect many eye diseases such as glaucoma and even diabetes before any symptoms are present.
After your exam, stop by our full-service optical boutique.
Our licensed opticians specialize in face shape, coloring and vision needs.
We have a wide variety of over 700 designer frames.
Prescription and lifestyle are always discussed to ensure we are meeting your expectations and visual comfort.
We offer popular designer eyewear including Adidas, Coach, Ray Bans, Oakley, Gucci, Kate Spade, Maui Jims (sunglasses only) and Silhouettes (eyeglasses only).
If you're interested in contact lenses, our technicians are trained in the latest technology.
