John J. Gardner, O.D., F.A.A.O., alias Dr. Jack, completed his Optometric studies at the Ohio State University where he was 3rd in his very competitive and competent class.
As an undergraduate, he had been awarded an Academic Scholarship to participate in a unique program at the prestigious Villanova University in Pennsylvania where he excelled.
Upon his return to Chicago, he began teaching at the Illinois College of Optometry where he remained for eight years, supervising students' clinical work at the same time that he was caring for patients in his and his father's Optometric office at 63rd and Pulaski, even then considered a state-of-the-art optometric practice.
