Services
LASIK or Lasik, commonly referred to as laser eye surgery or laser vision correction, is a type of refractive surgery for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
Cataract surgery is a procedure to remove your eye's lens when it becomes cloudy.
This procedure is recommended when a cataract keeps you from doing things you want or need to do.
Glaucoma is a slowly progressive condition which can cause gradual loss of peripheral vision.
Because of this, many patients aren't aware of any symptoms of glaucoma, and it is only diagnosed by an attentive eye care provider.
Dr. Robert W. Thompson Jr. is a board certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in laser vision correction, and cornea and external diseases of the eye.
He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Thompson completed a medical internship at Harvard's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an ophthalmology residency at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute.
Dr. Thompson completed fellowship training with the Corneal Consultants of Indiana.
He has served our country as a member of the United States Army at Fort Riley, Fort Hood, and overseas performing LASIK and PRK laser vision correction surgery for our soldiers.
As we mature our lens hardens and yellows with age.
The lens can develop irregularities that result in scattering of light that results in glare and halos around lights.
This can decrease your vision.
As these changes progress, individuals with cataracts may no longer see as well as they used to, even with glasses.
At this point, it is time to think about cataract surgery.
There are things you can do to slow cataract progression and development.
Dr. Thompson trained at Johns Hopkins where studies have shown that hats and sunglasses worn by the Chesapeake watermen can slow the development of cataracts.
