Services
Eyecare experts recommend you have a complete eye exam every one to three years, depending on your age, risk factors, and physical condition.
Adults: The AOA recommends an annual eye exam for any adult who wears eyeglasses or contacts.
If you don't normally need vision correction, you still need an eye exam every two to three years up to the age of 40, depending on your rate of visual change.
Doctors often recommend more frequent examinations for adults with diabetes, high blood pressure and other disorders, because it can have an impact on vision and eye health.
A cataract is the clouding of the natural lens.
Our clear aspirin sized lens is made mostly of water and protein.
As we age, some of the protein may clump together and start to cloud a small area of our lens.
Over time it would cloud more of the lens which makes it hard for us to see.
This is much like the effect of looking thru a smudged camera lens.
The blurred image can either be at a distance or up close and can occur in either or both eyes, however it cannot spread from one eye to the other.
Once you've decided to proceed with cataract surgery, there is the big decision of which intraocular lens (IOL) lens to use.
IOL is an artificial lens that is implanted in the eye during cataract surgery to replace the eye's natural clouded crystalline lens.
There are a few basic types of IOLs, each designed to correct vision at a specific visual range.
Your doctor will discuss with you to decide which IOL is best suited for your visual needs.
It is an important part of the decision process as it determines the vision you will live with for the rest of your life.
Normal: It is normal to experience the following symptoms: slight irritation or discomfort on the operative eye, mild watering, slight redness or slight drooping of upper eyelid.
Abnormal: Sharp pain that cannot be relieved by oral medication, injury to the eye, bleeding, decrease in vision or flashes of light occurring on the operative eye.
If you are experiencing these symptoms, please contact Dr. Huang.
2 Operated eye should be protected by eye shield until first post operative appointment.
Do not remove eye shield except when applying eyedrops.
When cloudy vision occurs after cataract surgery, most patients immediately think that their cataracts grew back.
After cataract surgery, the cataract will never come back, however there is about a 50% chance that the capsule develops excess epithelial cells from the eye and a protein film will form across the posterior capsule much like a spider web.
It may form in both eyes, only one eye or even not at all.
When this happens, your vision becomes hazy, you may experience double vision and see glare caused by bright lights or from lights at night-time.
