Our ophthalmologists perform a minimally invasive, small-incision, no-stitch cataract surgery called phacoemulsification ("phaco") surgery to remove the cloudy lens and replace it an IOL. State-of-the-art lenses inserted during cataract surgery significantly improve vision in patients with astigmatism. Therefore, many patients can decrease their dependence on glasses.

During cataract surgery we remove the cloudy lens and replace it with a clear artificial lens called an IOL.
After the cloudy lens has been removed, a new artificial lens, or IOL, is implanted in the eye.
Finally, the self-sealing incision closes, so patients usually do not need stitches.
Most of our patients say that recovery is much easier than they imagined.
Because of this, many people are back to work within just a couple of days.
We operate at the Snowden River Surgery Center.
The center is a state of the art eye surgery facility located in Ellicott City, MD, which is just 15 minutes from our Glen Burnie, MD office.

Physicians have been using flexible IOLs for years to replace the eye's cloudy lens during cataract surgery and help patients enjoy clear vision again.
The ReSTOR lens improves upon the ordinary IOL by using apodized diffractive technology to provide a full range of focusing distances from near to far.

Over 140 million people in the U.S. wear eyeglasses, and over 30 million wear contact lenses.
Glasses and contact lenses improve vision by adjusting the way the eyes bend and focus light.
Ideally, the cornea refracts (bends) light rays as they enter the eye so that they focus on the retina in the back of the eye.
However, many people's corneas have a shallow or steep curvature which causes light rays to focus in front of or behind the retina.
Objects may then appear blurry at certain distances or at all distances.
