Dr. Jane Hughes has been in private practice for 20 years and held an appointment as Clinical Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, UT Health, San Antonio until 2014.

We are pleased to have you as one of our patients. We appreciate any feedback you may wish to provide regarding your office or surgical experience. We are constantly striving to provide the highest level of state of the art ophthalmologic medical and surgical care in an efficient, comfortable, patient centered environment.
Services
Our office has highly skilled and experienced personnel.
Carmen Keeth and Cynthia Hernandez have a combined experience of over thirty-five years in handling ophthalmology front desk issues and insurance.
Stephanie Scharmann and Diane Detterline are both experienced ophthalmic technicians who work with patients in the examination areas.
According to Dr. Hughes, one of the joys of an ophthalmology practice is that there is a lifelong relationship with the patients.
People require eye examinations on a regular basis as well as medical and surgical intervention.
Dr. Hughes is a board certified ophthalmologist in private practice and is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
She was elected into AOA, the medical honor society, in medical school.
She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Other memberships include The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Texas Ophthalmologic Association, and past president of the San Antonio Society of Ophthalmology.
On any given day in the office, patients of all ages with the full spectrum of eye concerns are seen.
Glaucoma is a common eye disease for which huge strides have been made in treatment.
Multiple medications have been replaced by single dosages for many patients, and laser procedures have been refined which can delay or even prevent the need for surgery when drops fail.
Our practice is an active practice and we make every effort to be efficient and still provide the care that each patient requires.
Contact lenses for most types of prescriptions, including astigmatism and eye bifocals, are now available.
Many are in disposable lens form, making spectacle-free vision more comfortable and safer for a greater number of people.
Spectacles have become fashion accessories as well as high tech devices, some as light as four paper clips.
These have been engineered to give the full range of clear vision with no-line bifocals.
Cataract surgery is a large part of Dr. Hughes practice and she states, I have seen the cataract operation evolve many times over.
