Dr. Todd Winkler is one of only a relative few optometrists in Cincinnati that treat keratoconus. I've been practicing optometry in Cincinnati since 1989. More recently, I began providing mobile "house call" eye exams to the home-bound. I've therefore adjusted my practice location and schedule accordingly. Now, in addition to my mobile eye care practice, I see patients on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at York Vision.

On some Saturday's, in addition to making house call eye exams, I'm also available to examine patients at York Vision. While I continue to provide traditional eye care services such as routine eye exams for glasses and contact lenses, I also have a practice emphasis on Keratoconus, Bifocal Contact Lenses, Multifocal Contact Lenses, and Low Vision.

The only two insurances that I accept at York Vision are some of the Eyemed plans and Medicare (please note that I only accept traditional Medicare, and none of the Medicare Advantage plans). If you do not have either one of these two insurances then all exam and contact lens fees would have to be paid out-of-pocket.
Services
Dr. Todd Winkler is one of only a relatively few optometrists in the Cincinnati area who treats patients with keratoconus, a condition in which the cornea becomes thin and distorted.
There are both rigid gas permeable and hybrid lenses available for keratoconus.
Since we have multiple fitting sets in-office, a higher success rate is achieved, and the fitting process is expedited.
There is no one single type or brand of contact lens that can be used to successfully manage all keratoconus patients.
Whether it be bifocal/progressive eyeglasses, or contact lenses in either bifocal, multifocal or monovision configurations, there is always going to be some degree of compromise involved.
It can mean having to hold your head in a certain position to view through a particular part of the lens, or things simply may not be as clear as desired at certain distances.
The fact is, nothing will ever be as good as when you were younger and didn't need special lenses to see both near and far.
That being said, bifocal contact lenses, multifocal contact lenses or monovision may or may not be a viable option for you.
We know that if you're reading this you probably don't have macular degeneration or any other debilitating eye disease, but maybe you know someone who does.
People with low vision have great difficulties with driving, reading, writing, using a computer, watching TV, seeing faces, and many other activities of daily living.
You can help to improve their quality of life by encouraging them to schedule a low vision examination.
Many people with eye conditions such as macular degeneration reach a point where their eye doctor tells them there is nothing else medically that can be done for them.
