Routine eye exams for eye health and vision correction are provided by our team of ophthalmologists and staff at Schefkind Eye Care.
Regular eye exams for adults and especially seniors are the best way to prevent eye health problems such as age related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic eye problems from leading to vision loss.
We recommend that all patients have regular eye examinations every 1-3 years depending on your age, your health, your family history of eye problems and whether you have been diagnosed or treated for any eye conditions or diseases in the past.

Having clear vision and seeing "normally" requires that light be able to pass through the optical structures of your eyes and properly focus on the retina.
The two primary structures that are responsible for refracting, or bending light so that it can focus on the retina, are the cornea, which is the outermost clear curved "lens" that is visible when looking at your eye from a side view and the crystalline lens, which is located behind the colored part of the eye, or the iris, and is not directly visible.

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve that is most often associated with a high pressure inside the eye-Intraocular Pressure (IOP)-that damages the nerve and causes progressive loss of vision.
In the United States there are more than three million people with glaucoma.
The most common form, Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) begins without any symptoms or obvious loss of vision.
With early detection, diagnosis & treatment, in the vast majority of cases, glaucoma vision loss can be controlled or prevented.
